This painting is one of a pair of two lionesses. I always name my animal paintings, and when I completed this pair, I struggled with what to call them. I wanted to name them after two strong women. The first idea that popped into my head was Thelma and Louise. I was unsure about this choice, and I shared this idea on my Facebook page. I was surprised by how polarizing it was. People seemed to love it or hate it. I finally decided to trust my instincts and kept the names "Thelma" and "Louise." Of the two women in the story, Louise seemed to be the more confident, at least initially, and she had problems in her past that motivated her actions, and eventually became her undoing. The tangled brush in the background seemed to represent that struggled past to me. So, I chose to name this lioness, "Louise."
