This digital, pastel & watercolor illustration is one of the most challenging animal portraits I have done. I am accustomed to painting animals with fur or feathers. And this baby black rhinoceros has neither!
You can tell he is no more than a few months old because his front horn is just a little nub. I knew very little about rhinos when I decided to paint this little guy, and I still don't know much. But I am learning! I do know that there are five different species of rhino. Due to habitat loss and poaching, the black rhino is critically endangered.
I decided to name this little guy, "Boomer."
